Colin Patino

Legal Practitioner Director

After qualifying as a Solicitor in the U.K. and working in London, Colin Patino emigrated to Queensland in 1997, where he worked for a number of CBD law firms and specialised in compensation claims, including acting on behalf of most of the major insurance companies.

Colin launched his practice in 2003. Colin’s knowledge of personal injury law in Queensland and his experience acting on both sides of the fence gives him a greater insight into how Defendants approach claims. He has a wealth of litigation experience and precedent he set in the Supreme Court of Queensland is now being used by larger personal injury firms across the country.

Colin is a member of the Queensland Law Society, the Australian Lawyers Alliance and the Pan European Organisation of Lawyers. Outside of the office, his passion is football; he is an avid supporter of Everton and coaches an Under-15 team in Brisbane.

Michael Coughlan

Legal Consultant

Prior to working with Patinos Personal Lawyers, I have worked with one of the biggest self-insurers in Queensland and have also worked with Defendant Law firms. This experience allowed me to have insight of the mind of an insurer when working on matters for the clients of Patinos Personal Lawyers.

An eye opener for me in why I want to work with injured people is that many years ago, whilst playing Rugby, I suffered a significant back injury. I understand the recovery and treatment that people need to recover from injuries. 

During my years of working, I have also been able to achieve a Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Business and a Masters of Business. 

With direct access to the Legal Practitioner Director of Patinos Personal Lawyers, the service that we are able to provide to clients in a timely fashion is far superior than those of our competitors.

Outside of the office, I have a passion for Rugby, the gym and also try my hand at cooking every now and then.

I joined Patinos Personal Lawyers in 2010 with a background in the legal industry and passion for organisational management. 

One of the key reasons I enjoy working at Patinos Personal Lawyers is the diverse nature of my responsibilities. As the Office Manager, I oversee a wide range of tasks. This variety not only keeps me motivated but allows me to support the Patinos Personal Lawyers team to achieve the success and reputation as a trusted legal firm in Queensland.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking and watching the NRL and Netball.

I have been working with Patinos for over 4 years. Prior to this, I was studying a Certificate 4 in Crime and Justice at Tafe. My role within the Patinos team is an Administration Assistant. During my time here, I have learnt so much, not just professionally but personally as well.

The things I enjoy the most in my day-to-day role is preparing Court Documents and Trial Brief’s as well as speaking with our clients and assisting them wherever I can.

Outside of work, I usually am at the gym, spending quality time with my family and friends or taking my two American Staffies on adventures! I look forward to my future here at Patinos and continuing to learn new things.

Danika Macken
Danika Macken

Administrative Assistant
Danika Macken joined the Patinos team in 2015 and after a 12-month stint in New Zealand in 2020, she returned to our team in 2021. She completed a Diploma in Justice Administration and a Certificate III in Business Administration which led her to a career in the legal industry.

Outside of the office, Danika likes to spend time with her dogs, family and friends and loves finding the best cheese board and beer in each town she visits.

My role at Patinos Personal Lawyers is as an Admin Assistant and have been working with the team for 12 months. Additionally, I am also studying a Bachelor of Law and Justice at QUT. 

One of the reasons that I enjoy working at Patinos is that I get to work in a positive and collaborative environment. Through working at Patinos, I have gained a number of skills such as working in a team with a common goal of helping our clients as well as various legal skills that are transferrable to my studies.

I am a current law and justice student at QUT, with experience in hospitality and student advocacy. I enjoy working at Patios Personal Lawyers because it allows me to develop important skills for the legal industry in a supportive and professional environment.

I have also learnt to transfer skills from previous workspaces to uphold the fast paced environment of Patinos and the legal industry.

At Patinos, my role is as an Administrative Assistant. I began working here in March 2023 as an opportunity to expand my legal knowledge and skillset. As a current Law Student at QUT, I have found the experience of working at Patinos invaluable, as I have been able to grow and learn in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Outside my work at Patinos I am undertaking a Bachelor of Law (Honours) and Bachelor of Creative Industries at QUT. I also spend time in the gym and getting involved in student theatre and similar creative endeavours.

Working in legal marketing as an undergraduate business student has given me valuable exposure to the intricacies of the legal industry while developing my practical marketing skills and broader office administration knowledge and skills. The positive team culture and great learning opportunities are why I enjoy working at Patinos Personal Lawyers.

Outside of Patinos Personal Lawyers, I enjoy walks along the river, spending time with friends and family, and getting to the beach whenever I get a chance.
